Fitness Classes with AARP Alaska!

As we settle in for another Alaska winter, keep your body active and healthy with AARP Alaska’s virtual Tai Chi and Chair Stretch and Strength classes! Each class will be offered in a 12-week series. Join for as many or as few as you like!

With these camera-optional Zoom classes, you can enjoy a relaxed, comfortable, non-judgmental atmosphere while following an experienced fitness instructor at your pace. Please consult your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen.

How to Join
You will need to register separately for each class you are interested in attending. Please note that you must be signed in to your AARP.org account or create an account to register for events. AARP membership is not required. Please do not opt out of event-related email, as you will be emailed a link to join the class via Zoom prior to the event. Fitness Class: A Seated Stretching and Strengthening Workout
Our 12-session virtual chair workout features a mild stretching and strengthening routine that stimulates whole-body circulation and relaxes the body. The chair exercises in this stretching and strengthening workout are low-impact movements performed while seated, designed to improve flexibility, strength and cardiovascular health. We begin with an invigorating head-to-toe warm-up and progresses with a mild series of stretching and strengthening movements integrated with your breath. Midway, we’ll pause for a three-minute guided relaxation. Register for sessions at the links below.

Fitness Class: Tai Chi
Our 12-week Tai Chi class is an easy-to-learn slow-moving meditation exercise. Classes are designed to open the body, improve oxygen intake, and help the body restore itself. Tai chi is a gentle exercise that combines breathing techniques, slow movements, and meditation to promote physical, mental, and spiritual health. Tai Chi can improve balance, flexibility, and overall physical function and reduce stress and anxiety. It is gentle on the joints keeping them healthy and mobile. You will also experience a 3-minute guided relaxation period to help absorb, rest, and benefit from the movements. Register for sessions at the links below.
