Each year, the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program in Alaska offers free tax preparation for seniors and low- to moderate-income Alaskans of any age. AARP membership is not required.
Last year 120 volunteers prepared 6,124 returns for Alaskans, a $1.2 million tax-prep value. They helped Alaskans receive more than $6.8 million in refunds and $1.3 million in Earned Income Tax Credit.
There are Tax-Aide sites in 18 communities: Anchorage, Chugiak-Eagle River, Fairbanks, Juneau, Girdwood, Homer, Houston, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Metlakatla, Palmer, Seward, Sitka, Soldotna, Talkeetna-Sunshine, Trapper Creek, Wasilla, and Wrangell. Most sites open in early February.
