AARP Delaware presented a sponsorship of $10,000 to the Food Bank of Delaware in celebration of AARP's National Day of Service. AARP has been a longtime advocate for combating hunger through numerous initiatives. Nationwide, AARP state offices chose a service project to honor the spirit of service and remembrance by participating in the National Day of Service.
Following the presentation of the oversized ceremonial check, the AARP Delaware team of staff and volunteers participated in a service project at the Food Bank to help serve hungry Delawareans.
"Providing meals to those in need creates more financial stability in the community," said Lucretia Young, AARP Delaware State Director. "We see families, including grandparents, who bring grandchildren for a nutritious meal. It gives hungry families peace-of-mind."
AARP Delaware has a longstanding commitment to alleviating hunger, especially among those age 50 and older. According to Feeding America, about 1 in 8 Delawareans (134,320 individuals) experienced food insecurity in 2024, including 37,920 children.
