We're seeking an intern for 2014. The candidate will be an undergraduate or graduate student with a major in Communications, Journalism or related field. The intern should be a self-starter who can work with minimal direction. Good technical/digital skills and knowledge of photography/video editing apps helpful. Proficiency in social media, esp. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube is also desirable. Hours will be 10-20 per week.
Helpful qualities
Interest in issues affecting the 50+ population such as retirement, health, etc. Interest in marketing, branding, public relations, community/grassroots activities, advocacy. Flexibility a plus.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Social media generation, monitoring and maintenance
- Video/photography
- Maintain Web features at www.aarp.org/de
- Some news and features writing
- Proofreading/editing
- Assist with media liaison
- Maintain information flow to the community (e-blasts, info packets, special mailings)
- Events logistics
- Work with volunteers of all types at events, in office etc.
- Other administrative duties as needed
- Support State Director/Advocacy/Outreach functions as needed.
