AARP Foundation Provides Winter Relief Fund to States

Wilmington, DE In January, AARP Foundation established a winter relief fund to support older adults suffering from the severe cold weather. The Foundation focused on states across the Northeast and Midwest and worked with local AARP state offices to direct funds to organizations providing relief to the most in need.

AARP and its members are committed to helping those in need; so to support these emergency relief efforts AARP and AARP Foundation will match dollar-for-dollar contributions up to $250,000, which could mean up to $500,000 in aid. The matching program will be administered through AARP Foundation.

“In Delaware, we hope to make it a little easier for older adults who struggle with limited income and are faced with increased heating costs and home repairs,” said Lucretia Young, AARP State Director.

AARP Foundation worked with AARP Delaware to direct funds to organizations providing relief to those in need. The amount of $1,500 has been donated to Catholic Charities, Inc.

The extreme weather, including record-breaking low temperatures and wind chill, could lead to a crisis for many older adults unless we act now. All funds will go directly toward efforts to help older Americans survive this harsh winter. To donate to the relief efforts, please go to:
