AARP Delaware State Director Lucretia Young recently announced that Rashmi Rangan has been chosen as the new AARP Delaware State President. Ms. Rangan takes the helm as AARP’s top volunteer in the First State following an extensive recruitment effort to find a leader who shares AARP’s mission and vision. A strong leader, grandmother and advocate, she exemplifies for all Delawareans that your potential is not limited by age.
As founder and Executive Director of the Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council, Inc. (DCRAC,) Ms. Rangan has become respected as a leader in education and advocacy addressing issues facing disenfranchised communities. She has been immensely successful in developing grassroots and grass tops community support for her innovative organization. She has also built a strong culture of volunteerism at DCRAC, drawing dedicated professionals from corporations, the legal field and all walks of life. Additionally, she produces, directs and hosts a monthly television program and a weekly radio show. Her low-income tax clinic serves Delawareans statewide.
An attorney, Ms. Rangan was admitted to the Bar Association of Delaware in 2004. She earned her Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law, cum laude, and also earned a Master of Arts in Urban Affairs and Public Policy from University of Delaware. Her numerous Board affiliations include President of Delaware’s League of Women Voters (2006-2008,) and a current role on Capital One’s Consumer Advisory Council.
"The staff and volunteers are confident that Ms. Rangan will make great strides in contributing to AARP’s work," said Young. "Her focus on agility, quality, service, and uncompromising ethics will serve AARP well. As team Delaware’s newest addition, she will work to help make life better for AARP’s 176,000 members in Delaware, and their families."
In her role, Ms. Rangan will work as the State Director's partner in leading the AARP work across the state for volunteers and members.
