Amish Country Bike Tour Returns September 10th, 2022

AARP Delaware is a proud sponsor this year’s 36th Annual Amish Country Bike Tour, is scheduled to return Saturday, Sept. 10, starting and ending on Legislative Mall in downtown Dover, Delaware. With routes of 16, 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles, there is an option for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

“AARP believes people should have more choice as to how they live as they age,” said Lucretia Young, AARP Delaware State Director. “This event is part of our ongoing work to improve social connectedness in communities and provide a range of transportation options for Delawareans.”

This year’s tour starts with packet pick up and “day of” registration on Legislative Mall in Dover the evening prior to the ride, from 4 pm to 7:30 pm (sunset). Day of registration and packet pickup will resume on Saturday at 6:30 am (sunrise).

The Tour will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday with a staggered start. The ride includes, pie, up to five fully stocked rest stops and concludes back on Leg Mall with an after-party. Lunch will be provided from one of our five food trucks from Rolling Revolution. Beverages will also be included. Live music with Glass Onion, deejay, vendors, and other activities will also be on site. In addition, Bike Delaware volunteers are offering for no additional charge Sunday morning “club rides” for those wishing to enjoy a full weekend of cycling, and to visit areas in Kent County not typically visited during the Tour, such as the Monster Mile, Dover’s Air Mobility Command Museum, Harvest Ridge Winery and more.

Rest stops for the Tour include the famous Amish Schoolhouse in Dover, where members of the Amish community and local volunteers serve locally baked pie and cookies. Other stops will include Emmanuel AME Church in Hartly, Harvest Ridge Winery near Marydel, Painted Stave Distillery in Smyrna, and the Felton Little League, where riders will enjoy healthy snacks, and beverages.

Registration is now open. Take advantage of the $45 early bird pricing until May 31, 2022. Prices increase to $55 per rider through July 31 and $65 through September 4. Youth ages 5 to 16 are $20 and those under 5 are free. Day of registration ($75 adult, $20 child) will be accepted from 4-7:30 pm on September 9, and on the morning of the Tour from 7 am to 10 am.
