Join us for an “encore” event to promote entrepreneurship
AARP and the Small Business Association (SBA) will host an “encore entrepreneur” event on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce. The event runs from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm and RSVP is required to Jennifer Pilcher at 302-573-6294 or jennifer.pilcher@sba.gov. You will walk away with valuable resources on financing a small business, owning a franchise, marketing, networking and more!
The partnership between AARP and SBA is a national one, reflecting the trend among boomers to start a business as a way to increase their economic security and boost their income. Small business ownership is a good option for many baby boomers. Nationwide, about 7.4 million boomers are self-employed. One in four individuals ages 44 to 70 is interested in becoming an entrepreneur and 63 percent of Americans plan to work during retirement, according to the website www.encore.org.
Throughout April, AARP Delaware and other AARP state offices, SBA District Offices and SBA Resource Partners will host more than 150 events around the country. Events include speed mentoring, which allows mentors and entrepreneurs to share information for five-minute sessions, and mentor lunches for entrepreneurs to learn best practices from successful small business owners. You may also go online to www.sba.gov/encore for other resources available to entrepreneurs over the age of 50.
