New Voting Machines Make their debut

Delaware has new voting machines this year! What’s so new about them? They leave a paper trail to ensure more accuracy and security in the voting process.

In addition to in-person voting, all eligible Delaware voters will receive a mail-in ballot application for the Primary and General Elections this year so you can choose how to vote...just be safe!

Voting

Delaware's new machines, which have already been used in some school and municipal elections, will include a paper ballot, which provides an extra safeguard in a time where voters are increasingly concerned about election security. The paper ballot has no identifiable information, which keeps your voting choices private.

The machines, called The ExpressVote XL Universal Voting System both marks and tabulates votes in one full-face voting unit. It includes a voter-verifiable paper record that is digitally scanned for tabulation on the ExpressVote XL itself.

The machines are intentionally not connected to the internet to prevent hacking.

Delaware voters used to have to sign in on a printed poll list before voting on the machines. Now, they’ll sign in electronically – still with the help of poll workers.

There are also new features for people who have trouble seeing. You can increase the text size, for example. If you’re color-blind, you can change the ballot on the touchscreen from green and white to black and white.
