More than 18,600 Delawareans signed up for health care coverage by April 15, the final deadline of the 2014 enrollment period for the Health Insurance Marketplace.
Let’s not forget to care for those who care for others. Every day, unpaid family caregivers and paid professionals care for thousands of older Delawareans, many of whom suffer from a disability and have limited mobility. Without their caregivers, they may otherwise be isolated from the support and services they need. Caregivers often neglect their own health, jobs and safety to provide essential support that allows those in need to remain in their own homes and live independently in their communities.

AARP Leadership convened this week in Wilmington, Delaware to discuss issues affecting older Delawareans statewide. Delaware is aging faster than most states and a need exists to ensure the state’s aging population will age with independence and success.
On April 8, AARP Delaware released new survey results that show 71% percent of older Delaware voters would be considerably less favorable to their member of Congress or Senator if the member voted for a chained or superlative CPI proposal, expected to be in the President’s budget proposal this week.
Proposed Social Security plan will cut into Seniors’ benefits
Our elected officials in Washington are considering adopting "chained CPI" as part of a budget deal, and AARP has created a new online calculator to show Americans how much they would lose if our legislators changed the way the cost-of-living adjustment is calculated for Social Security and veteran's benefits. By entering their age and estimated annual benefit, users can see how much less they would receive over the years if chained CPI is adopted.
