Do you want to stay safe in our world of ever-changing roads and driving conditions, traffic patterns, and vehicle technology? If you said yes, AARP has the answer for you! AARP’s Driver Safety course can help. It's designed for drivers age 50+ but can benefit anyone who wants to drive better. Even the best drivers can benefit from a refresher course, and you can remain independent by driving better and longer.

Learn how to adjust to age-related changes in vision, hearing or reaction time that may affect driving capabilities. Get an update on traffic laws, defensive driving techniques and how to handle aggressive drivers. You will also pick up techniques to safely manage blind spots and other driving hazards. By taking an AARP Driver Safety course, you can remain independent by driving longer and safer.

What’s more, students who have completed the program may be eligible to receive a 10% automobile insurance discount for the first 3 years and a 15% discount when you take refresher courses after 3 years. Check with your insurance agent and on the  Driver Safety web page for more information.

The course is open to AARP members and non-members. AARP members pay just $12 for the classroom course and $15.95 for the online version. It costs non-members $14 for the classroom and $19.95 online.

AARP Driver Safety is a national, volunteer-run program. In Delaware, more than 80 well-trained volunteers teach classroom courses in all 3 counties across the state. Courses are held at senior centers, libraries, hospitals and other convenient locations. You can also opt to take Driver Safety online and get all of the same benefits of the course in the comfort of your own home.

“There are so many new safety features available in cars now, and our program helps drivers remain knowledgeable and up to date on new technologies,” said Driver Safety State Coordinator Perry Martinson.

Cars change, driving conditions change and so do you! Keep up with the roads so you can get to where you’re going safely and on time!
