AARP Delaware held its annual Lobby Day at Legislative Hall in Dover on May 22. Our dynamic team of volunteers enjoyed grassroots outreach training and the opportunity to talk with elected officials about some top AARP priorities during this Legislative session.
House Bill 317 was a key topic of conversation. The so-called “Gift Card Bill” requires retailers who sell third-party gift cards to post signage alerting their customers to gift card scams. The bill passed the House and is moving on to the Senate.
AARP Delaware also advocated for Accessory Dwelling Units, or ADU’s, as a way to make it more possible for older Delawareans to remain in their communities for as long as possible. These in-law suites, garage apartments, or backyard cottages create flexible living arrangements, often for older residents who want to downsize and live with family or who require day-to-day assistance to stay in their homes. They also provide affordable housing for vital workers and students in communities close to work and school.
