AARP Hawai`i announces new Fast, Healthy & Ono Webinars

By popular demand, AARP Hawai`i and Windward Community College’s Uala Leaf Cafe are extending their free Fast, Healthy and Ono online cooking series with a series of new webinars on basic cooking techniques and cooking some of Hawai`i’s most popular ethnic dishes.

The webinars, simulcast on the @aarphawaii Facebook page, are also moving to Thursdays at 5 p.m. from Fridays at 5 p.m. People can sign up to get a Zoom link by going to the AARP Hawai`i website, aarp.org/HI, or the Facebook page and clicking on the Upcoming Events tab.

The Fast, Healthy and Ono series with Chef Daniel Swift began in September as a way to teach anyone how to make quick, healthy and delicious dishes. The programs are designed so that people can get the recipes ahead of time and cook alongside the chef or refer back to the videos if they make the dishes later. The webinars also allow for virtual interaction since in-person events are not recommended for many kupuna.

Starting on Thursday, Nov. 5, Fast, Healthy and Ono participants will ”Celebrate Hawai`i’s Diverse Cuisine,” by teaching participants to make local favorite dishes.

The series begins with Punahou Portuguese Bean Soup, followed by Japanese-style Miso Salmon with Soba Noodles on Nov. 12; Filipino Chicken Adobo on Nov. 19, Quick and Easy Chinese Dumplings on Dec. 3 and Pho From Home on Dec. 10.

The webinars are open to everyone. You don’t have to be an AARP member to sign up. But you must register by clicking on Upcoming Events at the AARP.org/HI website or AARP Hawai`i Facebook page to get a Zoom link. Sessions will also be simulcast on Facebook Live. Past webinars can also be viewed on the videos section of the AARP Hawai`i Facebook page.
