AARP Hawai`i Sponsoring Free Showing of Caregiving Film

“Taking Care,” a documentary about actor/writer/producers Seth Rogan and Lauren Miller Rogan and their caregiving experience after Miller Rogan’s mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, will have free showings statewide through April 17.

Oahu screenings are at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26 at the Oahu Veterans Center, 1298 Kukila Street in Halawa and Wednesday, April 2 at the Hale Kokua O Manoa Adventist Community Center, 2655 Manoa Road.

Directed by James Keach (Walk the Line; Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me; Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice), the film shows how laughter and love can help us navigate life’s toughest moments. The film will be followed by a discussion about the challenges of caregiving and information about policies and resources to help family caregivers.

"The idea for this documentary came to me while I was going through the Alzheimer's journey with my mom," said Lauren Miller Rogen, Filmmaker, Co-Founder Hilarity for Charity, in a news release. "She was a teacher and if she had a microphone to teach someone something, she would take it. I decided to fight back against this terrible disease by sharing her story and educating people about what they can do to support caregivers and research, but also about the importance of prevention through brain health education."

Hilarity for Charity at https://wearehfc.org/ is a nonprofit founded by Seth and Lauren Rogen. The film is also presented by https:/www.brightfocus.org/, and https:/www.aarp.org/brain-health-action/.
