Learn to Finance Your Future at a Free AARP Hawai'i Conference

Will you be ready for retirement?

Planning for a secure financial future is hard work. You need to know how to  budget, invest, and spend your money as you grow older.  As you near the traditional retirement age of 65+, you need to understand the role that Social Security, Medicare and insurance will play in your retirement security and your options for working longer if you need or want to keep earning a paycheck.

That’s why AARP Hawai‘i invites people of all ages to attend a free Finance Your Future conference on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i from 8 a.m. to noon. Register online at aarp.cvent.com/fiance4-6 or by calling 1-877=826-8300.  AARP membership is not required.  Parking will be validated at the Japanese Cultural Center.

This year’s theme is about planning for and paying for a 100-year life. With better healthcare and healthier lifestyles, chances are increasing that you will live to be 100, especially in Hawai‘i which has the highest average lifespan of any state in the country.

“People need to prepare for retirement or risk being unable to retire. This conference will help you secure the kind of retirement that will give your choices,” said Barbara Kim Stanton, AARP Hawai‘i State Director. “The conference will help you think through what you need to do so that you don’t run out of money as you age and can enjoy the kind of life you deserve.

Topics presented at the conference include living on a budget, planning for increased health costs, understanding Social Security, estate planning, smart investing, financial planning for a 100-yearlife,  the new realities of work, and understanding Medicare.

State Rep. Aaron Johanson, the chair of the House Labor Committee, will also talk about Senate Bill 1374. The measure, if passed, will take the first steps to setting up a program to give 216,000 hard-working private-sector employees an easy way to save at work.

You don’t have to be an AARP member to attend the conference. People younger than AARP age are welcome and encouraged to attend because the earlier you start planning, the better.
