Show your aloha for family caregivers at a sign waving and rally at the state Capitol to show support for tax credits for caregivers, family leave and other legislation to help the “unsung heroes” of Hawai`i’s long-term care system.
Participants meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Capitol and will sign wave along Beretania Street from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12. Send an email to hiaarp@aarp.org if you can participate or want to help in other ways like writing testimony or letters to the editor.
Family caregivers are the backbone of the broken long-term care system in Hawai`i. Without them our long-term care system would collapse. They help make it possible for older adults, people with disabilities, and veterans to live independently in their own homes and communities, where most of us want to be, instead of expensive, taxpayer-supported nursing home care.
The physical, emotional, and financial challenges they face in their caregiving roles cannot be overstated. They deserve our support.
