Craig Kadooka, a retired physician and founder of the Walk with a Doc program in Hilo, has a simple goal: to get people to be more active. “The first step is walking,” he says.
It’s why he’s urges people to enjoy the scents and scenery of Hilo’s Lili‘uokalani Gardens while walking — maintaining both physical and mental health.
Interested walkers gather every Sunday at 8 a.m. at a meetup spot near Hilo Bay Cafe, 123 Lihiwai St. Medical residents from Hilo Benioff Medical Center give brief health talks before participants walk the garden paths at their own pace.
