AARP Hawai`i invites Hilo residents of all ages to Walk with a Doc on Sundays at 8 a.m. at Liliuokalani Gardens.
The weekly walks are free and promote healthy habits. Participants meet near the Hilo Bay Café each Sunday at 8 a.m. Retired Dr. Craig Kadooka or a Hilo family medicine resident doctor will give a short talk and answer health-related questions and participants can walk as a group or on their own at their own pace around the scenic Liliuokalani paths.
“My goal is to get people to be more active,” said Dr. Kadooka, who started the Walk with a Doc program in Hilo nine years ago. “The first step is walking. Almost anybody can walk. We’ve had people come in wheelchairs and family members push them around the park.”
“AARP Hawai`i is helping to promote Walk with a Doc as part of efforts to promote healthy aging,” said Pam Bruce, an AARP Hilo volunteer. “We want people to be able to choose how they live as they age and maintaining your physical and mental health helps you live your life to its fullest.”
AARP Hawai`i will have a table set up at the Sunday, June 4 walk with information on Walk with a Doc and upcoming AARP Hawai`i activities.
