CHICAGO- AARP Chicago is pleased to announce the AARP IL Holiday Celebration benefitting the children of local veterans thorough Veteran Women United.
This toy drive and Holiday event is being held to support, honor, and respect our local Veterans and their families
AARP believes that working in concert with local residents and service organizations allows us to participate in addressing critical community needs.
“ We all value our freedom and rights secured by military veterans who are supported by their families. Their many sacrifices should never be forgotten.” States Ruby Haughton-Pitts, Director of Advocacy and Outreach for Northern Illinois.
According to the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless: Chicago reported the largest increase in veteran homelessness between 2009 and 2016, a 20.2% increase, up by 101 people. Chicago reported that 10.2% of those who were homeless in 2016 were veterans (many with children) up from 7% in 2015 and 9% in 2014.
ALL are welcome to join in this community-wide holiday celebration where food, beverages and music will be provided.

TIME: 6-9 pm
ADMISSION: An unwrapped toy for a child between 1 and 12 years old
PURPOSE: Holiday Party & Toy Drive benefitting the children of Chicagoland service women and men.
BENEFICIARY: National Women Veterans United will distribute the toys to local families in time for Christmas giving.
