AARP Illinois Participates in American Healthcare Act Press Conference with Senator Dick Durbin

United States Senator Dick Durbin invited AARP Illinois to stand beside him in a press conference today to discuss the American Healthcare Act.

Illinois State Director, Bob Gallo, conveyed AARP’s opposition to the American Health Care Act.  The press conference allowed AARP to express their serious concerns about the impact this legislation will have on older Americans and their families.

AARP is troubled that the American Health Care Act will weaken the fiscal sustainability of Medicare and would open the door to vouchers which could dramatically increase premium and out-of-pocket costs for 50-64 year olds.  The AHCA could also substantially increase the number of Americans without insurance; and put at risk millions of children and adults with disabilities, and poor seniors who depend on the Medicaid

AARP is working to ensure any new health care reforms reduce the cost of prescription drugs and stop insurance companies from overcharging older Americans. AARP intends to fight to protect the health care for older Americans and their families to ensure that any new health care legislation.
