REAL ID Clarification! Do You Need a REAL ID?

dl-realid.jpg

Beginning May 7, 2025, the federal government will require every person 18 years and older to present a REAL ID-compliant state-issued driver’s license or ID card or another acceptable form of identification — like a valid U.S. passport — to board a flight within the U.S. or enter a secure federal building.

To accommodate the recent surge in demand, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias introduced a new designated “Get A REAL ID” portal on the homepage of its website ilsos.gov.

Click here to see the portal.

It offers easy questions to help determine if you need a REAL ID, and how to find a walk-in location or schedule an appointment.
