AARP Indiana took the fight to Stop Rx Greed statewide during the month of August.
Volunteers and staff from Merrillville to Jeffersonville stepped up and delivered thousands of petition signatures urging lawmakers to take on the pharmaceutical industry and make prescription drugs more affordable.
“Access to affordable, lifesaving prescription drugs is one of the most critical health care issues impacting Hoosiers that are 50 and older,” AARP Indiana State Director Sarah Waddle said. “It is crucial that Congress seizes onto this moment and follow their constituents’ lead, who are demanding that affordable prescriptions become more accessible.”
Delivering petitions has been just one prong of AARP Indiana’s (and AARP state offices across the country) strategy to drive progress on this pocketbook issue that is present in every Indiana community.
In early September, US Senator Mike Braun stopped by the AARP Indiana office for a Tele-town Hall on prescription drug prices, during which Senator Braun answered questions and provided his views on prescription drug costs – all with thousands of Hoosiers on the phone call.
“AARP Indiana and its team of volunteers and staff will continue fighting to Stop Rx Greed and get a better deal for people that are 50 or older,” Mandla Moyo, AARP Indiana director of community engagement, said. “It’s just one change Congress can make in order to help Hoosiers be able to live their best lives.”
