Fun and fitness are back in a big way at Healthy Baton Rouge’s 4th annual Family Fit Day. The highly anticipated event will be held Saturday, May 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at BREC's City-Brooks Park, 1515 Dalrymple Dr.

The goal of Family Fit Day is to provide a fun, citywide event for all ages to encourage sustained physical activity, increase community engagement, and build support for active, healthy families in Baton Rouge.

“We are excited to help the community get fit and live healthier lives! Diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and depression impact our communities more than ever. We hope to educate and empower our community to stay fit, eat right and live healthy by providing an event such as Family Fit Day,” said Randee Rousseau, supervisor of community outreach at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, and Family Fit Day event coordinator.

Local organizations will offer fitness demonstrations, speakers, healthy cooking demonstrations, blood pressure screenings by Ochsner, kids’ activities, water safety education provided by the YMCA,  runs, bike rides and so much more. This year, AARP Louisiana will host a 1.3 mile family fun walk that loops through the park, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

“We are thrilled to participate in Family Fit Day for the second consecutive year, and really excited about the family fun walk for people of all ages and abilities. We want to encourage people to be more active, and this event gives them an opportunity to learn more ways to get moving,” said Denise Bottcher, AARP Louisiana State Director.

The 1.3 mile walk will begin and end at the AARP Louisiana expo area, where families can enjoy old school games such as hop-scotch, horse shoes, 4-square, and more.

AARP Louisiana is a presenting sponsor of Family Fit Day, along with BREC, Ochsner Medical Center-Baton Rouge, Healthy BR, and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Randee Rousseau at (225) 765-8037.
