On Tuesday, October 15, AARP Louisiana will host a special event titled "Unmasking Fraud," aimed at helping Louisianans protect themselves from the growing threat of fraud. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The New Orleans Advocate, located at 840 St. Charles Avenue. A highlight of the day will be a keynote address by AARP Fraud Ambassador Paul Greenwood, a renowned expert in the field of elder abuse and fraud prevention.

Greenwood, a retired San Diego Deputy District Attorney, led the Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit for 22 years and has prosecuted over 750 felony cases involving physical, sexual, emotional, and financial abuse against seniors. Post-retirement, Greenwood continues to consult on elder abuse cases and trains law enforcement and Adult Protective Services agencies across the U.S. and internationally. He also serves on the criminal justice board of the National Adult Protective Services Association.

In addition to Greenwood’s keynote, the event will feature a Resource Fair to connect attendees with local organizations offering essential fraud prevention tools. There will also be a Stakeholder Roundtable (invite only) where experts and key stakeholders will discuss strategic approaches to combating fraud in Louisiana. The day will conclude with a Lunch Reception and the presentation of the prestigious AARP Fraud Fighter of the Year Award, recognizing an organization that has shown outstanding dedication to fighting fraud.

"Fraud is a growing threat, especially for older adults, and it's vital that we work together to protect our communities," said AARP Louisiana state director Denise Bottcher. "Through events like 'Unmasking Fraud,' we aim to provide Louisianans with the resources and support they need to stay informed and safe."

This free event is open to the public, but space is limited. Early registration is encouraged, and interested participants can register at events.aarp.org/UnmaskingFraud.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be streamed live on AARP Louisiana’s Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as through local news sites TheAdvocate.com and NOLA.com

This event promises to be a valuable opportunity for Louisianans to learn how to identify, prevent, and fight back against fraud. Don't miss this chance to hear from one of the country's leading fraud prevention experts and connect with vital community resources.
