AARP Eye Center
The first week of the 2023 Louisiana legislative session is in the books, and we are working diligently to advocate on issues impacting our nearly 430,000 members, and we need your help.
CLICK HERE to support one of our top advocacy priorities this year - SB 39 - and HB 525 - which will help family caregivers and their loved ones who wish to live at home as they age.
2023 Legislative Priorities:
There are approximately 680,000 family caregivers in Louisiana who contribute an estimated $6 billion in unpaid care annually. Help older adults and individuals with adult-onset disabilities live at home by eliminating the registry of individuals who have been waiting for a Community Choices waiver so they can age in place and live independently at home.
Digital Equity for All
43.6% of Louisianans do not have access to low-cost home high-speed internet. Affordable broadband is essential to telehealth access, preventing social isolation and natural disaster preparation and recovery. Digital Equity consists of three pillars: Access, Tools, and Skills.
Reducing Rx Drug Prices
Prescription drug prices continue to soar. AARP is educating lawmakers on the importance of policies that make lifesaving drugs more affordable through importation, increased transparency, affordability boards, tackling price gouging, and capping out-of-pocket costs.
Reliable and affordable utility service is vital to the health and well-being of older Louisiana residents. AARP seeks service affordability for all and advocates for costs and savings to be distributed fairly among consumers.
Safeguard the financial security of current and near-retirees and make it easier for people to build their own private retirement savings rather than depend on a government program.
