Love catching the latest blockbuster for free or are you looking to let the excitement die down and catch a top rated film without fighting the crowds?  Whatever your preference, Baton Rouge Movies for Grown Ups has something for you.

In 2017 Baton Rouge launched the popular “Movies for Grown Ups” experience. To kick- off this new opportunity in the Capital region, guests were given free popcorn, snacks and, more importantly, a free movie! In February of 2018 we celebrated the one year anniversary of Movies for Grown Ups in Baton Rouge with a sold out crowd for “Black Panther,” and now fully in its second year, Movies for Grown Ups (MFG) is gaining a following of committed movie goers and fun lovers!

In its first year MFG offered programming for everyone. Screened movies ranged from documentaries and biographical pieces on Maya Angelou and Jacqueline Kennedy to riveting period pieces like “The Zookeeper’s Wife”  and blockbusters like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”  Movies for Grown Ups also created a unique opportunity to support statewide initiatives. In April of 2017 the team hosted a special screening of “Hacksaw Ridge” for veterans, their families and veteran advocacy and service organizations. This event was hosted at the Manship Theater and was complimented with a listening session in the Turner Art Gallery where guest were able to connect over the shared experiences of military service and life. This free and fun programming is truly offers a little something for everyone.  Eileen Kennedy, volunteer and MFG aficionado, captures the essence of Movies for Grown Ups sharing that “Movies for Grown Ups is getting adults out to a fun activity while they are learning more about AARP.”

Volunteers will decide which movies are screened, lead registration and check-in and help develop pre-screening engagements. As our way of saying “Thank you” volunteers hosting a screening will receive reserved seating and a drink and snack voucher.

Whether your perfect night at the movies is “date night,” a fun night on the town with friends or  volunteering your time and enjoying a sweet treat to end your evening, we think Movies for Grown Ups has a place for you and we hope to see you this year!
