Baton Rouge resident Karen Ewing has been selected to receive the 2020 Andrus Award for Community Service-- the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.

AARP Louisiana selected Karen for her remarkable service which has greatly benefited her community, supported AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.

Karen is a volunteer and board member for Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge. She has worked tirelessly to help fulfill the organizations mission to help older homeowners remain in their homes and age in place. She has done it all, from physically working on homes, directing volunteers, raising funds, to recruiting staff, and handling in-take calls from clients.

Chris Andrews director of Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge says that he has never known or worked with a more dedicated person. “Because of Karen’s efforts, Rebuilding Together has grown and expanded and continues to provide essential services to residents of Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas.”

Karen will be formally recognized during a virtual celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. CLICK HERE to register to attend.

“I am honored to recognize Karen Ewing as the recipient of the AARP Louisiana 2020 Andrus Award,” said Bobby Savoie AARP Louisiana State President. “In keeping with Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus’ legacy of service, Karen has exhibited leadership, service, passion, as well as a vision to change lives through her can-do attitude.”

Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.

Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge will receive a $3,000 donation from AARP Louisiana on behalf of Karen Ewing.
