AARP’s Livable Communities Council, the Center for Planning Excellence and the Lt. Governor’s Office are seeking nominations for the 2014 Great Places in Louisiana awards program.
Nominations are available online at www.greatplacesinlouisiana.org. Applicants can submit nominations until midnight on May 31, 2014.
The Great Places in Louisiana awards program recognizes innovations in planning, housing, and transportation that create livable communities where people of all ages and abilities can live throughout their lifetime.
Great places are communities where people can find meaningful ways to engage with neighbors and friends, live in housing that they can afford, use a range of transportation options and access social and supportive services.
Past winners include: PACE of Greater New Orleans, the Hollygrove Market and Farm (New Orleans), the Baton Rouge Downtown Development District-Arts & Cultural District and the Kress Welsh-Levy project (Baton Rouge), Beauregard Town (Baton Rouge), City-Brooks Park (Baton Rouge), Bastrop High School, Westend Redevelopment Initiative (New Iberia), Bike Easy (New Orleans), NuNu Arts and Culture Collective (Arnaudville), downtown Houma, Jena, Louisiana, New Orleans City Park and Louisiana’s Permanent Supportive Housing Program.
The 2014 Great Places in Louisiana award winners will be announced at a reception in November in conjunction with the annual SmartGrowth Summit at the Manship Theatre at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge.
