Representative Stephanie Hilferty Named AARP Louisiana 2025 Legislator of the Year

When Louisiana families talk about aging with dignity, safety, and respect, State Representative Stephanie Hilferty is one of the voices standing strong on their side. This year, she was recognized as AARP Louisiana’s 2025 Legislator of the Year, an award that highlights leaders who go above and beyond to improve the lives of older residents.

During the 2025 legislative session, Rep. Hilferty worked passionately to block legislation that would have weakened protections for nursing home residents in cases of abuse or neglect. While the measure ultimately passed, her efforts shined a spotlight on the issue, reminding policymakers and the public that caregivers and families deserve strong safeguards.

Her work embodies what so many Louisiana families want: peace of mind that their loved ones will be treated with compassion and accountability, no matter where they receive care.

Louisiana’s population of adults 50+ is growing rapidly. With that growth comes new challenges—from ensuring safe long-term care to protecting financial security and strengthening community supports.

Rep. Hilferty received the Legislator of the Year Award at a special ceremony on September 17 at the Higgins Hotel in New Orleans, surrounded by community leaders, advocates, and AARP volunteers.
