AARP Eye Center
AARP Louisiana hosted an Unmasking Fraud event featuring expert Paul Greenwood, bringing together nearly 150 attendees for a comprehensive look at how to protect older adults from scams. The event served as a critical platform for education and collaboration, aimed at addressing one of the fastest-growing threats to Louisiana’s aging population.
The event featured an array of activities designed to arm older adults with the knowledge they need to recognize and combat fraud. One of the day’s highlights was the stakeholder roundtable, which facilitated discussions between key community partners and laid the groundwork for future initiatives. This collaborative effort is set to influence legislative solutions during the upcoming session, ensuring that Louisiana continues to strengthen its protections against fraud.
Additionally, the resource fair offered practical tools and expert guidance to help attendees stay ahead of scammers. Participants left the event feeling empowered, with many expressing gratitude for the actionable insights provided. From avoiding phishing scams to identifying financial fraud, attendees reported that they now feel better prepared to protect themselves and their loved ones.
A significant milestone of the event was the presentation of the inaugural Fraud Fighter of the Year Award, a recognition given to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office for its outstanding commitment to combating fraud. This award serves as a reminder of the tireless efforts made by both individuals and institutions to protect our community from fraudsters who prey on vulnerable populations.
While the in-person event was a success, the impact didn’t stop there. The live recording of the event was broadcast on AARP Louisiana’s Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as The Advocate’s online platforms. This extended coverage allows even more individuals across Louisiana to access the vital information shared during the event.
As we look to the future, the Unmasking Fraud event has laid a solid foundation for ongoing efforts to protect Louisiana’s older adults from the ever-evolving landscape of fraud. The partnerships forged, the resources shared, and the collective energy of all involved have created a strong community dedicated to making a difference.
AARP Louisiana will continue to work alongside local partners and legislators to ensure that fraud prevention remains a top priority in the state. Together, we can fight fraud and empower older adults to live with confidence and security.
