AARP Massachusetts has appointed Dennis Hohengasser as its new State President, the top state volunteer post within the organization’s influential network of volunteers. As the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, AARP’s state presidents work in partnership with their respective state directors, staff and volunteers to lead AARP’s important advocacy and programmatic work.

“We are proud to welcome Dennis Hohengasser as the new State President of AARP Massachusetts,” said AARP Massachusetts State Director Jen Benson. “Dennis brings a deep commitment to public service and a personal passion for protecting older adults from fraud and abuse. His decades of experience in education and staff development, combined with his impactful volunteer work with AARP, make him an inspiring leader. We look forward to the energy, empathy, and expertise he will bring to our mission of empowering people 50-plus across the Commonwealth.”

Hohengasser, of Taunton, has been a volunteer with AARP since October 2015 initially focused on AARP’s rollout of the Fraud Watch Network. Having been victimized by a scam, he knows first-hand how easy it is to fall prey to scammers. He expanded his volunteer activities to include tabling events, mentoring new Speakers Bureau volunteers and supporting the Volunteer Portal. He has a passion for helping to protect others from becoming victimized by fraud and scams. He has also been a volunteer with the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) since 2018, supporting Medicare beneficiaries and their families with presentations on protecting, detecting and reporting fraud, waste and abuse in the Medicare program & helping beneficiaries becoming engaged healthcare consumers.

Hohengasser received a Bachelor of Science in Education and taught school for 9 years before beginning his 33-year career with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the area of Employee Training and Staff Development.

In this legislative session AARP Massachusetts is championing key issues that matter most to older residents and their families: fighting fraud, supporting family caregivers, and making communities more livable for people of all ages.
