Empowering Home Comfort: Upcoming Events for Aging in Place

DrillFullFrame (1).jpg

As time passes and our lives evolve, our homes remain the steady backdrop to cherished memories, family milestones, and everyday routines. For older adults and those caring for loved ones, the idea of "aging in place” - staying in the comfort of one's own home for as long as possible grows ever more appealing. But how do we ensure our homes adapt gracefully to changing needs, and where can we turn for support when costs or challenges arise?

This month, two upcoming events offer practical advice, community resources, and innovative strategies to help you transform your home into a lifelong haven. Whether you’re an older adult planning for the future, a caregiver seeking solutions, or simply someone curious about safer, more welcoming spaces, these sessions are designed with your needs in mind.

Session One:
Simple Home Updates for Lifelong Comfort
Wednesday, October 22 at 10:00 AM
Want to make your space into your lifelong home? Creating a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment doesn’t require dramatic renovation or a hefty budget. Small changes, thoughtfully applied, can have a big impact on your quality of life.
You’ll see how updates can transform every room—living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom—without extensive remodeling. The session will also share affordable strategies, resources, and inspiration for planning ahead. Whether you’re helping a loved one stay independent or thinking about your own future, the right changes can make your home work better for you.

Session Two:
State Support for Home Modifications
Wednesday, October 29 at 10:00 AM
Looking to improve your home but worried about the cost? Financial barriers often stand in the way of making necessary home adaptations. Whether it's installing a wheelchair ramp, widening doorways, or creating an accessory dwelling unit for a loved one, the costs can add up quickly. That’s where state support comes in. In this session, a representative from the Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation (CEDAC) will introduce a state-funded lending program designed to make home modifications more affordable and accessible. The session will walk you through eligibility requirements, how to apply, and real-life examples of families who’ve benefited from these programs.

Both sessions underscore an important truth: a lifelong home is within reach, with the right support and strategies. You don’t have to navigate the journey alone. By making small changes, exploring available programs, and planning ahead, you can create a space that’s not only comfortable and safe but also the setting for new memories and continued independence.
