Boosting Care Options for Older Michigan Residents

Additional funding included in the fiscal 2023 state budget is aimed at increasing access to home- and community-based services, which help older residents continue living at home.

The funding—which lawmakers approved in July and AARP Michigan strongly advocated for—includes $2.8 million for training and job placement help for direct care workers. An additional $3.5 million will help pay for in-home services, such as making meals or doing laundry, through the Area Agencies on Aging, which serve people age 60 and older. 

The state budget also includes money to increase the number of people served by the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly at sites in Traverse City, Mount Pleasant and Detroit. The program’s 20 other sites will also receive more funding.
