Hotter Than July!, the African American LGBT Pride Fest in Detroit, couldn't have been more aptly named this year.
Temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s greeted more than 2,000 participants at the July 24-26 20th anniversary event.
AARP sponsored breakfast on the opening day and volunteers staffed a resource table where attendees could learn about caregiving, AARP Fraud Watch Network, Life Reimagined and other topics.
Lisa Whitmore Davis, AARP Michigan Associate State Director for Multicultural Outreach, led a one-hour workshop on caregiving and the CARE Act attended by 100.
"This is a great opportunity each year for us to engage with the LGBT community in Detroit, reach people with our programs and spread the word about AARP," she said.
