'Memory Café' Supports Those Living with Dementia, Caregivers

Friends Having Lunch Together At A Restaurant

AARP Michigan is helping people living with dementia and their family and friends connect with others during new, monthly “memory café” gatherings in Lansing.

This memory café, called Ethel’s Place™, will take place at The Venue, inside Lansing Mall, 5330 W. Saginaw Highway, on the first Thursday of the month, from 2-4 p.m. The get-togethers include refreshments and activities that often involve art or music.

A 2020 report by the AARP Global Council on Brain Health found that listening to or making music can help support brain health as people age.

AARP Michigan hopes that experience gained in Lansing may spur similar cafés in other communities in the state.
