AARP Mississippi Announces Scholar Athlete of the Week

AARP Mississippi is happy to announce our Scholar Athletes of the Week every Friday this fall. We partnered with Super Talk Mississippi to seek nominations for outstanding students who excel in sports and academics. The response was overwhelming! That’s why we’re bringing you two exceptional Scholar Athletes every week.

Meet Mark Diers, a junior at South Jones High School. Here’s what Luke Johnson had to say: “A junior receiver and kicker/punter and defensive back for the South Jones Braves – Mark Diers is also a soccer and baseball player. In addition to his sports, he has close to a 4.0 GPA and a 30+ ACT score. Against North Pike, Mark kicked the game winning field goal. Mark is everything you are looking for in a scholar athlete.” According to Coach Roger Satcher, “He’s one of these guys that works harder than anyone else. He listens and he’s coachable.”
