Joyce Beck of Grand Island has been named the new volunteer State President of AARP Nebraska, a role that speaks to her remarkable leadership and unwavering commitment to giving back.

In this role, Beck will guide AARP Nebraska’s efforts to serve the state’s nearly 180,000 members aged 50 and older. She will chair the Executive Council, partnering with the State Director to provide strategic vision and leadership at the state and community levels. Additionally, Beck will serve as Nebraska’s chief volunteer spokesperson for AARP.

“I am deeply honored to step into the role of AARP Nebraska’s State President and to lead efforts that empower and uplift our communities. I look forward to working alongside our incredible volunteers and leaders to champion the issues that matter most to Nebraskans aged 50 and older.” Beck said.

Since beginning her volunteer journey with AARP in 2021, Beck has held several key roles, including advocacy lead and, for the last two years, member of the Executive Council, which she will now lead as State President.

Some of her many activities with AARP include meeting with Nebraska’s congressional delegation about the high cost of prescription drugs and testifying on family caregiving and health care bills at the state legislature. She organizes volunteers to participate in AARP’s statewide voter engagement efforts and helps coordinate legislative candidate forums. She also regularly recruits volunteers to assist at AARP community events and visit with their elected officials.

Beyond her remarkable volunteerism, Beck’s professional career in healthcare administration spans nearly 30 years, during which she has excelled in directing patient care and managing operations across hospitals, rural health clinics, long-term care facilities, and assisted-living settings. Her career has been decorated with numerous honors, including the 2008 Heroes in Healthcare Award and the 2012 Most Wired Award from HIMSS. She was also featured in Hospitals and Health Networks in 2012 for her outstanding contributions to the field.

A steadfast advocate for civic responsibility, Beck has devoted herself to various nonprofit organizations and healthcare associations. She is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders, exemplified by her role as a graduate-level instructor at Bellevue University, her alma mater, where she earned a Master of Healthcare Administration. Beck describes herself as a lifelong learner, a quality reflected in her unwavering dedication to both her community and the pursuit of knowledge.

Todd Stubbendieck, AARP Nebraska’s State Director, said, “AARP is a volunteer-driven organization, and the State President is a key volunteer leadership position. Joyce’s impressive background and passion for addressing issues that impact Nebraskans aged 50 and older make her an exceptional leader for our advocacy work at both the state and federal levels, as well as for enhancing our volunteer and community engagement.”

The volunteer State President serves a two-year term, with the option for reappointment to two additional terms. To learn more about AARP Nebraska, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, visit aarp.org/NE.
