Laws Boost Access to High-Speed Internet for Nebraskans

Laptop

Two laws that Gov. Pete Ricketts (R) signed over the summer and that are now in effect expand access to high-speed internet in unserved/underserved areas of the state.

The first will help Nebraska receive a greater share of federal broadband funding. The second allows broadband providers to use electric utility easements to expand infrastructure. AARP Nebraska supported both bills.

Nebraska has ranked among the worst states in the country for access to fast, affordable broadband internet. High-speed internet can help older residents avoid isolation and remain independent. It can also enable virtual telehealth visits between patients and doctors.
