Residents in North Platte and McCook will get the scoop on how to keep their investments safe from scammers during a free program on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23.
The FINRA Investor Education Foundation, Community Hospital and AARP Nebraska are hosting “Outsmarting Investment Fraud” sessions open to the public. Experts from the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission and AARP Foundation will conduct the program. Their presentation will be followed by a discussion with local law enforcement about current scams in the area.
Space is limited for both events and early registration is encouraged.
The Oct. 22 session will be held in North Platte from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Holiday Inn Express, located at 300 Holiday Frontage Rd. RSVP by Oct. 14 to 1-877-926-8300 toll free or register online. A light dinner will be provided.

Participants will learn about the persuasion tactics commonly used by fraudsters, along with the simple steps they can take to protect their hard-earned nest egg.
Investment fraud affects thousands of Americans and accounts for billions in lost savings every year. People age 50 and over with money to invest are favorite targets for fraud. The profile of a typical victim is someone who is financially knowledgeable with above average income, college-educated and self-reliant in making financial decisions.
