AARP Foundation is recruiting friendly and service-oriented people throughout New Mexico to join its Tax-Aide volunteer team. Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program.

“In 2025, New Mexico AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers completed over 21,000 returns at 41 tax sites across our state with refunds of over $13 million,” said Don Miller, State Coordinator. “AARP Tax-Aide New Mexico is proud to continue our work to provide our communities with free tax assistance to those who need our help the most.”
“Even modest refunds can change the lives of our friends and neighbors, and our Tax-Aide volunteers help make sure our taxpayers don’t miss out on the credits and deductions they deserve,” Miller said.
In addition to providing free tax preparation and filing services, Tax-Aide volunteers also help with tech support, organize tax sites, recruit volunteers, translate and more, in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
They are trained and IRS-certified every year to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code. Volunteers come from a variety of careers and don’t need to be AARP members. A training class will be held in December or January for the 2026 tax season.
“Volunteers are the heart of our Tax-Aide program,” said AARP Foundation President Claire Casey, herself a Tax-Aide volunteer. “Since 1968, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers have helped more than 80 million taxpayers file their returns for free. They make a meaningful difference in AARP Foundation’s mission to end senior poverty by helping vulnerable older adults in their communities build financial resilience.”
