AARP New Mexico Joins Santa Fe's Summer Scene Concert Series

AARP New Mexico is joining the scene – the Santa Fe Summer Scene that is. It will be sponsoring the concert by Cuarenta Y Cinco and Severo Y Grupo Fuego, Thursday, Aug. 31, 6 p.m., at the Santa Fe Plaza.

The event is part of Lensic 360’s ongoing Summer Scene featuring a series of concerts, with a few movies mixed in, mostly centered in Santa Fe’s downtown area and the Santa Fe Railyards. All events are free.

“The concert we are sponsoring is the last of the season but there are so many other events that people can enjoy in the meantime, we hope people join in the fun all summer long,” said Gary Williams, AARP New Mexico Associate State Director for Community Outreach.

“Each year our volunteers in the Santa Fe area decide what events we want to take part in and we’ve enjoyed this concert series so much, we had to come back. There is nothing quite as nice as being on the plaza on a summer evening enjoying a local band playing. It just has such good energy and it’s fun,” Williams said.

AARP volunteers will have an informational booth at the event sharing information on AARP resources on things like fraud prevention and tips for family caregiving. They will also be visiting with people to discuss upcoming events in the Santa Fe area and how people can become a volunteer.

According to its website: “Lensic 360 is an extension of Lensic Performing Arts Center programming that presents concerts at venues throughout New Mexico and offers top-quality, free community programs. The mission of Lensic 360 is to present a diverse array of incredible artists to the greater community and support a thriving entertainment scene in New Mexico for artists and audiences alike.

“Lensic 360's Summer Scene offers free outdoor music performances and movies on the historic downtown Plaza, in the Railyard, at SWAN Park and Reunity Resources. Enjoy local and national musicians from a variety of genres, including rock, country, Native American, jazz, folk, and mariachi, as well as movies for the whole family. Bring your chairs or blanket, some water, and your besties to kick up your heels with the locals and experience Santa Fe's vibrant music scene. Food trucks and surrounding restaurants will be ready to take your food and drink order.”
