AARP Rhode Island is building a trained team of fraud prevention volunteers to help raise awareness about scams targeting older adults across the Ocean State.
Consumers in the state reported nearly 7,000 incidents of fraud and related problems in the first half of 2024, according to Federal Trade Commission data. Identity theft was the largest category, with more than 1,600 complaints filed, FTC data shows.
AARP Rhode Island is also planning to push fraud prevention legislation at the General Assembly when the session begins in January.
