AARP Celebrates Black Music Legends with Free Virtual Concert

Celebrate Black Music Month with a free, live-streamed concert.

Join AARP Nashville and guests from across the country for this special sponsored virtual benefit concert on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The concert will honor icons in music and culture and showcase the story of Black music as told by the new, Nashville-based National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM). During this live event, NMAAM will feature special tribute performances and present the Rhapsody and Rhythm award to the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson and Quincy Jones. 

“AARP is proud to collaborate with Music City’s NMAAM to preserve the lasting contributions that African Americans have made on music genres around the world,” said Edna Kane Williams, Executive Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer at AARP. “Black Music Month is an essential time for all to reminisce, enjoy and celebrate the cultural influence of this legacy.”

The event will be live-streamed starting at 6:30 p.m. CT from the red carpet.  The benefit concert begins at 7 p.m. CT and will feature special appearances and tribute performances by:
