2. Build an Emergency Supply Kit
• Assemble an emergency supply kit that includes essential items such as non-perishable food, water, medications, first-aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, and important documents (such as identification and insurance papers).

3. Stay Informed
• Keep abreast of weather forecasts and emergency alerts by monitoring local news channels, weather apps, or NOAA weather radios. Stay informed about potential threats and evacuation orders in your area.

4. Secure Your Property
• Take preventive measures to safeguard your home and property against potential damage. Trim trees, secure loose outdoor items, reinforce doors and windows, and consider investing in storm shutters or straps to protect against damaging winds.

5. Stay Connected and Supportive
• Reach out to neighbors, friends, and community members, especially those who may be vulnerable or isolated, to offer support and assistance in preparing for disasters. Building a strong support network can provide invaluable help and resources during times of crisis.

McNeil concludes, "Community solidarity is key in disaster preparedness. By coming together and supporting one another, we can enhance our resilience and recovery efforts in the face of adversity."

Being prepared for natural disasters requires proactive planning, resourcefulness, and community collaboration. By following these five essential tips and heeding the advice of experts like Mia McNeil, we can better protect ourselves and our communities against the unpredictable forces of nature. Remember, preparedness today can save lives tomorrow.
