Fighting Irish student-athlete earns AARP/MetroNews statewide honor
Alex Davisson of Clarksburg Notre Dame High School has been selected as the AARP West Virginia/MetroNews Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of November 6.
A senior, Alex is a 4.0 g.p.a. student and a member of the National Honor Society, National Academy of Future Scientists and Technology, Key Club and Pep Club. He has participated in the American Legion Mountaineer Boys State and Leadership Essentials State Conference programs. Alex is the son of Chuck and Lisa Davisson of Clarksburg.
A four-year starter for Coach Sam Alvaro’s Fighting Irish football team, Alex earned West Virginia Class A All-State recognition as a junior. An offensive lineman and linebacker, he is a two-time All-Mason Dixon Conference selection. As a junior, Alex led the team in tackles (115) and earned All-Harrison County honors. He was a member of Notre Dame’s Class A West Virginia State Playoff teams in 2013 and 2014.
On a community level, Alex is actively engaged in volunteer and service activities in Harrison County through his school and church. He serves as a volunteer with several community organizations and activities including Clarksburg Mission’s Annual Food Drive, Harrison County Humane Society, Challenger League Society Baseball Program, American Heart Association, Adopt A Veteran Program at the Clarksburg VA Center, and the West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s “Be Safe…Be Seen” campaign. He also serves as a member of the City of Clarksburg’s Mayor’s Youth Council.
Following graduation, Alex will enroll at West Virginia University where he plans to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical therapy.
During the 2016 Fall Sports season, one high school student athlete will be selected each week as the AARP West Virginia Scholar Athlete of the Week and recognized on the popular West Virginia MetroNews High School GameNight program, which airs 9:30 p.m. – midnight each Friday night on nearly 40 radio stations across the Mountain State.
West Virginia student athletes in Grades 11 and 12 with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are eligible for the award. Nominees should excel in one or more athletic program, and be active within their community through service and community involvement. The application deadline for this year’s program has closed.
