Jarrod Kellar of Lincoln High School has been selected as the AARP West Virginia/MetroNews Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of August 31.
A senior, Jarrod is a 4.17 g.p.a. AP Honors student and ranked among the Top Ten in his class. He is a National Honor Society member and serves as Key Club president. He is the son of Mike and Missy Kellar of Shinnston.
A three-year starting quarterback for Coach Rob Hawkins’ Cougars, Kellar earned 2013 Class AA All-State football honors while passing for nearly 2,200 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. He is also a two-year member of the varsity basketball team.
On a community level, Jarrod is actively involved in volunteer and service activities in Harrison County through St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Lincoln High, including Trick or Treat for UNICEF, Angel Luv Program and Community Christian Outreach Program. As Lincoln High Key Club President, he oversees several school and community service projects and activities.
Kellar is on track to graduate from high school in December, and hopes to continue his athletic career on the collegiate level.
During the 2014 Fall Sports season, one high school student athlete will be selected each week as the AARP West Virginia Scholar Athlete of the Week and recognized on the popular West Virginia MetroNews High School GameNight program, which airs on nearly 40 radio stations across the Mountain State each Friday night (9:30 - midnight) during the High School football season.
West Virginia student athletes in Grades 11 and 12 with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are eligible for the award. Nominees should excel in one or more athletic program, and be active within their community through service and community involvement.
