Allouez Man Appointed to Executive Council

Joel Rubin

Today we are thrilled to announced that Joel Rubin, 65, of Allouez (Green Bay area), has been appointed to a two-year term on our AARP Wisconsin Executive Council. The appointment was made by AARP Wisconsin State President Dave Stella.

Joel (pictured) was a social worker for over 30 years in Milwaukee and in Northeast Wisconsin. After retiring in 2010, he has worked as one of our many great AARP Wisconsin volunteer advocates, focusing on both federal and state issues.

Joel’s entire career was centered on helping people improve their personal situations. He truly understands the value and importance of empowering people of all ages to positively engage in society and prepare for what’s next in their lives.

As a member of our Executive Council, Joel will work with AARP members, volunteers, staff, legislators, and state residents on key issues facing the 50-plus population and all Wisconsinites, such as health care, financial security issues and voter education.

"I am very honored and pleased to have been selected to be a member of the Executive Council of the AARP Wisconsin,” Joel said. “I am looking forward to working with fellow council members as well as the professional staff in the AARP Wisconsin Office."

Joel is a member of the Green Bay area Men's Club. He is a participant in the Learning In Retirement program at UW-Green Bay and is pursuing licensure for health and life insurance with an emphasis on senior needs. He was past president and member of the Shalom House Board of Directors in Green Bay.

Joel began his professional career as a probation and parole agent for the State of Wisconsin. He worked as a children's probation officer for Milwaukee County as well as a protective services and foster care worker for Brown County. He served as acting director of the Youth Home for Brown County.

Joel worked part-time for several years in the Green Bay Public School District as a school social worker before accepting full time employment in the Manitowoc Public School District for 17 years in the same capacity.

Joel holds a Master’s Degree in social work from UW-Milwaukee and a Bachelor’s Degree in history also from UWM. He and his wife Mary have lived in Allouez for over 30 years. They have three adult children and one grandchild.
