Updated Fall 2025

Cryptocurrency kiosks are increasingly being used by scammers to steal money from people. Good Morning America recently reported on cryptocurrency kiosk scams - check out the video below for a 4-minute explanation on the issue & its impact on victims:

Fraudulent activity involving cryptocurrency kiosks is on the rise. Cryptocurrency kiosks, also known as “crypto ATMs” or BTMs, can be found in supermarkets, convenience stores, gas stations, bars, and restaurants. Cryptocurrency kiosks look like bank ATMs and allow people to conduct cryptocurrency transactions, such as sending money to digital wallets. However, they lack sufficient consumer fraud protections. As a result, crypto kiosks are being utilized to facilitate fraud.

As more scammers use these machines to steal money from Wisconsinites, more news outlets are looking to raise awareness and share stories from victims.
