Helping Wisconsin’s Livable Communities Get Active Together

Thursdays with AARP WI with guest Abe Lenoch

Livable Communities are a core part of AARP’s mission to enable all people to choose how they live as they age. Livable Communities have vibrant outdoor spaces to gather, places to experience art and culture, affordable housing, and easy access to key services. In order for a Livable Community to thrive and be accessible for all ages, it must have safe and reliable means of transportation, and an important part of that is creating and maintaining walkable neighborhoods. This is why AARP is committed to advocating for safe streets, sidewalks, crosswalks, and properly timed traffic lights.

One of the benefits of having a walkable community is that it enables and encourages everyone to be more active. To discuss the importance of fostering active communities, Thursdays with AARP Wisconsin will be speaking with 1000 Friends of Wisconsin's Community Project Coordinator, Abe Lenoch, about the Wisconsin Active Together program on Thursday, November 5th at 12:00pm CT. Wisconsin Active Together promotes and supports organizations and initiatives that help make it easier for people to walk, bike and be active in their communities. This program also educates communities across Wisconsin on how to make walking and biking safer and more accessible to promote active, healthy lifestyles.

Curious to know how your community measures up? Check out AARP’s Livability Index. And if you want to help AARP gather more data on the walkability of your community, you can complete a Walk Audit.

You can also join the conversation by sharing your comments and/or questions live via Facebook and YouTube, or you can send your questions before, during, or after the presentation to ammiller@aarp.org.
