AARP Eye Center
1 in 4 adults will have a stroke in their lifetime, which is why the World Stroke Organization is asking you to Join the MoveMent on October 29th for World Stroke Day. What does it mean to Join the MoveMent? It means showing off your dance moves to become part of the world’s biggest dance chain! Why? Because keeping active is one way to help prevent a stroke. While everyone is encouraged to take part in this fun activity for World Stroke Day, it is also vital to learn all the ways you can prevent, spot, and respond to a stroke. According to the World Stroke Organization, “Up to 90% of strokes could be prevented by addressing a small number of risk factors, including hypertension, diet, smoking and exercise.” Knowledge is the first step to preventing a stroke, and AARP Wisconsin is here to help.
To help spread awareness and educate our viewers on World Stroke Day, Thursdays With AARP Wisconsin will have a special show dedicated to this topic on Thursday, October 29th, at 12:00pm CT. Host Sam Wilson, AARP WI State Director, will be speaking with Dr. Erik Tarula, who specializes in Neurology and Stroke at UW School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Tarula is an expert on this subject and will provide a wealth of information about what each of us can do to prevent, spot, and respond to a stroke. And remember, our live show is interactive, which means you are encouraged to ask questions and request more information from our guest.
You can join this important conversation by sharing your comments and/or questions live via Facebook and YouTube, or you can send your questions before, during, or after the presentation to dwasniewski@aarp.org.
